Hydra – Ermioni

Bye Greek Islands.

After enjoying the beautiful Hydra for two nights, we decided to leave the Greek islands for a short time and set course for Ermioni. The main reason for this visit was the highly sheltered bay, where we sought protection from strong winds.

October 22nd, 2023: Hydra – Ermioni: After spending the morning exploring the island and swimming, we lifted anchor at 1:30 PM. With a course of 325 degrees, we were able to set the genoa and turn off the engine less than fifteen minutes later. If only it were always that easy—what a dream. However, the joy was short-lived, and we soon had to turn the engine back on to make progress. Still, we enjoyed the journey and looked forward to our next destination.

In Ermioni, you can either dock on the north or south side of the town. We opted for the free option and headed to the large, well-protected bay of Ormos Kapari. Unfortunately, the water was quite murky, so we decided against swimming, but we were visited by turtles, which made it all the more special.

Since we anchored quite deep in the bay, we were almost a nautical mile from the town, but with the dinghy and calm seas, it was no problem. The town itself, however, was a bit of a letdown. We didn't connect with the scenery or the architecture, but we did appreciate the lower prices. I took advantage of the opportunity for a haircut—time well spent.
