Porto Heli – Konoupi

End of the Season Approaches.
It's late October, and as the sailing season winds down for us, we're preparing to head to Poros from November 1st onwards. Before we do, we're taking the opportunity to explore the area one last time. Today's destination? Crystal-clear waters and tranquility.

October 26th, 2023: Porto Heli – Kounoupi: At 11:35 AM, we lifted anchor in the large bay off Porto Heli. Our plan was to anchor directly at the entrance to "Khersonisos Ermionisos" – a winding bay with turquoise waters. As we sailed through, we were amazed by the dream-like colors, which reminded me of the Dominican Republic. The water was very shallow, posing a challenge to maneuver despite our draft of only 1.5 meters. Unfortunately, the suitable anchor spots were already occupied, so we had to turn back. What a pity.

To shelter from the predicted swell, we opted for an alternative bay on the Peloponnese and set a course of 30 degrees east under the genoa. The wind was light, but it didn't bother us. Finally, at 2:50 PM, we dropped anchor in front of Kounoupi and relished the peace as we had the bay all to ourselves.

As almost always, we also picked up trash from the sea during this journey. It's simply heartbreaking to see how polluted the Mediterranean is. Whenever possible, we stop and fish it out with a net – it's the only kind of "catch" we engage in while at sea.

After about three hours, we reached the bay in front of Kounoupi. Few tourists on the beach, no other boats around, and turquoise waters – what more could you ask for?
